Responsibilities

As a Light Microscopy and Imaging Specialist you will ensure the operation of all advanced light microscopes, comprising confocal and multipurpose research microscopes and oversee installations and daily maintenance. You will use your expertise and knowledge of experimental set-ups to create tailored imaging protocols to resolve complex imaging problems. You will be expected to respond to the demands of the users of the facility patiently and inventively. You will train, assist and supervise researchers with different levels of experience (from Bachelor’s degree students to highly experienced scientists) and you will give them instructions where necessary and appropriate. You will guide these users in the critical interpretation of their imaging data and show them how to acquire images (e.g. with LASX) and process images (e.g. with Photoshop; Huygens deconvolution; FIJI), and how to perform (semi-automated) image analysis (e.g. with FIJI). You will carry out all required back-up tasks involving electron microscopy equipment.
