The BioOptics Core Facility of the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP), Institute of Molecular Biotechnology (IMBA) and the Gregor Mendel Institute of Molecular Plant Biology (GMI) is seeking a highly motivated, full-time Flow Cytometry Specialist (m/f).
The operation of the BioOptics Core Facility is based on a cooperation of Boehringer Ingelheim and the Austrian Academy of Science and provides services to 36 research groups and 450 scientists from over 40 countries. The facility provides the researchers at the IMP/IMBA/GMI with service in flow cytometry, microscopy and image analysis. It is equipped with state-of-the-art analytical flow cytometers and cell sorters as well as optical microscopes plus imaging software – see http://cores.imp.ac.at/biooptics/ for details. The core facility currently offers five analyzers, one self-operated FACS and operated services on three sorters to more than 200 researchers. We are now seeking a highly motivated and service oriented flow cytometry specialist who will become part of our team and will support both analytical as well as flow projects involving cell sorting.
Applicants should hold a PhD in immunology, cancer research or developmental biology including stem cell biology and should have a minimum of 3 years of flow cytometry experience, preferably including advanced techniques like intracellular stains, functional assays (e.g. Calcium flux), etc. They should be able to work as part of a team, be highly self-motivated and interested in optical technologies. Fluency in English together with good communication and interpersonal skills are required, basic skills in German advantageous. The candidate should be an enthusiastic, service-oriented team player willing to help scientists with basic and advanced aspects of flow cytometry.
The institutes, embedded in the Vienna BioCenter (VBC), offer the opportunity to work in a dynamic international environment with excellent benefits. Significant benefits include a subsidized child support centre and cafeteria as well as training courses. The yearly gross salary starts from € 50.800,- depending on qualifications and experience. The position is initially limited to one year with the option to prolong.
