About the ELMI

ELMI was created in 2001 to establish a unique communication network between European scientists working in the field of light microscopy and the manufacturers of their equipment.

Microscopist, MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences, UK

Based in West London, the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences is an Institute of the Medical Research Council and an academic division of the Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London. Research activity is organised around three major themes: Epigenetics, Integrative Biology and Genes & Metabolism, addressing key questions underpinning human health and disease.

Research at the LMS covers a wide range of topics and is supported by a well-equipped and expanding light microscopy facility, which comprises a large variety of systems ranging from stereo microscopes and slide scanners to the latest confocal, super-resolution and light-sheet instruments. Details on the current instrumentation are available from the facility website: http://microscopy.lms.mrc.ac.uk

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who will provide training and technical support for our large user base as well as performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting on the different imaging platforms. Direct participation in research projects is also encouraged. This is ideally suited for someone with a keen interest in optical microscopy and image analysis in a research environment.

The successful candidate will report to the head of the facility and should have a science degree in a relevant area with some research experience using light microscopy techniques including fluorescence confocal microscopy. A good understanding of all aspects of digital imaging from acquisition to image processing and analysis is desirable. Advanced computer skills are essential.

Applicants should be interested in developing and applying new imaging techniques, possess excellent written and oral communication skills to interact effectively with facility users and have the ability to work independently as well as operating as part of a small team. The position is full-time and permanent.
