ELMI was created in 2001 to establish a unique communication network between European scientists working in the field of light microscopy and the manufacturers of their equipment.
A 2-year full-time postdoctoral position is available in the BioImaging Core facility (BIU) of the Biomedical Research foundation of the Academy of Athens (BRFAA), Athens, Greece (www.bioacademy.gr). The scientist will participate in BIOIMAGING—GR, an imaging infrastructure grant, which aims to create a strongly interlinked and geographically distributed infrastructure for general-access, high-end biological imaging providing a range of imaging techniques to scientists, SMEs and enterprises in Greece and neighboring countries (http://www.imbb.forth.gr/news/Bioimaging-GR_RoadMap.pdf).
This individual should have a strong background in imaging and computing techniques. With a PhD degree in biology, physics or other related field and a good knowledge of fluorescence microscopy and significant experience in Image Processing and Analysis using MATLAB and ImageJ.
More specifically, the position will offer an excellent opportunity to the scientist to become part of a collaborative team, providing user support in various microscopy imaging techniques, developing new imaging applications and creating custom made software in collaboration with the users. In addition he or she will be responsible for the upgrade of the computing infrastructure of the facility and the installation of new imaging systems due to be purchased through the grant (Confocal upgrade, Structured Illumination system and Optogenetics), their calibration and their proper introduction to the users.
Finally within the Bioimaging-GR networking activities, the scientist will collaborate with our partners and participate in meetings for the presentation of the techniques available within the BioImaging-GR distributed infrastructure.
