ELMI was created in 2001 to establish a unique communication network between European scientists working in the field of light microscopy and the manufacturers of their equipment.
We are offering a PhD position in the group of Dr. Ludovico Silvestri at the European Laboratory for Non-linear Spectroscopy (LENS, Florence), working in the development of radically new methods for the optical detection of neuronal activity across the entire mouse brain, with future potential application on humans. The candidate will implement a Diffuse Optical Tomography system in the mid-infrared and validate it both on phantom samples and in vivo. Besides system engineering, the PhD project will involve data modeling and analysis as an important workpiece. The ideal candidate should have a background in physics/engineering or related disciplines, open mindset, and willingness to operate in a multidisciplinary environment.
Please contact Dr. Silvestri (silvestri@lens.unifi.it) for further information and preliminary applications.
