ELMI was created in 2001 to establish a unique communication network between European scientists working in the field of light microscopy and the manufacturers of their equipment.
The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association (MDC) is one of the world’s leading biomedical research institutions. At the locations in Berlin-Buch and Mitte, researchers from some 60 countries analyze the human system – investigating the biological foundations of life from its most elementary building blocks to systems-wide mechanisms. Patients should benefit as soon as possible from our basic research discoveries. The MDC therefore supports spin-off creation and participates in collaborative networks. It works in close partnership with Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin in the jointly run Experimental and Clinical Research Center (ECRC), the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité, and the German Center for Cardiovascular Research. The MDC today employs 1,600 people and is funded 90 percent by the German federal government and 10 percent by the State of Berlin.
The Berlin Institute for Medical Systems Biology (BIMSB) at the MDC is a highly interdisciplinary scientific environment engaged in cutting-edge research and collaborative projects within the MDC and across Berlin research institutes and initiatives. It is located in the Center of Berlin and focusses specifically on the grand challenges of Single Cell Analysis as well as the integration of various levels of gene regulation into comprehensive and predictive models to elucidate their function in health and disease.
Scientific Technology Platforms at the MDC provide service and support for the research approaches with a wide portfolio of technologies, specialized teams and state-of-the-art equipment. They support innovation, technology developments and applications in collaborative projects with MDC groups and academic partners in Berlin and beyond.
