The Role
We seek to recruit an experienced Specialist Support Officer who will work closely with members of the BioImaging facility Newcastle University as well as a group of international microscopists to support and grow the QUAREP-LiMi community of scientists.
QUAREP-LiMi (QUality Assessment and REProducibility for instruments & images in Light Microscopy, https://quarep.org) is an international group of over 400 light microscopists with backgrounds in academia, industry, policy and publishing. QUAREP-LiMi was formed in 2020 and has now become a global community of volunteers focussed on improving quality and reproducibility in light microscopy. The aim is to achieve this through better understanding and quality controlling the imaging pathway from the microscope itself through to image acquisition, analysis and publication.
You will assist with a number of critical tasks associated with maintaining, promoting and growing a large international and diverse community of scientists and industry participants. You should have an understanding of microscopy, data management, research funding and publishing but opportunities for training and self-directed learning will be provided. You will be expected to take the lead on a number of specific administrative, promotional and technical tasks which require a scientific background.
This is an exciting position that has the opportunity to make a considerable positive impact on the QUAREP-LiMi community and their aims. Ultimately, you and QUAREP-LiMi will lead to the improvement of microscopy-based research and with it reproducibility in science.
This post is fixed term for up to 18 months.
