About the ELMI

ELMI was created in 2001 to establish a unique communication network between European scientists working in the field of light microscopy and the manufacturers of their equipment.

PostDoc Position, University of York, UK

Department

Applications are invited for a Wellcome Trust funded Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to work on a collaborative project between the Department of Biology and the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology (PET). The aim of the project is to apply a novel sensing and imaging technology to monitor the secretion of proteins from live cells. This post holder will work with the technology developers to study heterogeneity in secretion amounts and dynamics across a range of cellular systems. It is expected to start on 1 October 2022, or shortly thereafter, for a duration of 30 months.

Role

The role holder will based in the Department of Biology under the supervision of Dr Peter O’Toole and will work closely with the groups of Prof. Steve Johnson and Prof Thomas Krauss (PET) who have developed the underpinning technology. The imaging sensor is based on a nanophotonic grating that permits the mapping of secreted proteins from individual cells with high spatial and temporal resolution. The role holder will collaborate with multiple academic groups across the Department of Biology (David Kent, Paul Kaye, Jenny Southgate and Ian Hitchcock) to study a range of biological questions spanning infectious diseases, cancer, immune cell biology, and haematology. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the research, experience of working collaboratively and across disciplines is essential.
