ELMI was created in 2001 to establish a unique communication network between European scientists working in the field of light microscopy and the manufacturers of their equipment.
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton near Cambridge (UK), Rome (Italy) and Barcelona (Spain).
EMBL is setting up a new unit in Barcelona, focused on Tissue Biology and Disease Modelling. Research will cover a range of biological topics that have tissue/organ-scale questions, including: organoids, regeneration, tissue homeostasis, tumor growth, tissue engineering and more. It will have a strong interdisciplinary character and systems biology approach, integrating experimental work with theoretical and modelling approaches. Central to the unit will be a new Mesoscopic Imaging facility, and we are now seeking candidates for the head of this facility.
The Mesoscopic Imaging facility will provide cutting-edge imaging to scientists both within and external to EMBL. We will particularly focus on imaging large-scale samples from the millimetre to centimetre scale. The facility will also perform technology research in mesoscopy to keep EMBL Barcelona at the fore-front of these techniques.
Application deadline 3 September 2017.
