ELMI was created in 2001 to establish a unique communication network between European scientists working in the field of light microscopy and the manufacturers of their equipment.
The ALFM Facility maintains 15 high-end microscopes, including programmable widefield microscopes, point scanning confocal microscopes equipped for fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM), spinning disc confocal microscopes, a lattice lighsheet microscope, super-resolution microscopes (single molecule localization and structured illumination), a micropatterning device and light cryo-microscopes. In addition to providing state-of-the-art equipment and user support, the ALFM facility closely cooperates with the cryoEM multi-user facility and research groups at CSSB to offer workflows for correlative light- and electron-cryo-microscopy (cryoCLEM) and to develop novel tools for cryoCLEM.
We are looking for a motivated microscopy specialist to join our team at the ALFM Facility who will help us to develop and offer tools and services for light cryo-microscopy and cryoCLEM.
The recruited candidate will closely work with and support researchers that use the ALFM Facility and will help them to plan, carry out and analyse light microscopy-based experiments. The recruited candidate will be involved in projects to develop novel tools, workflows and methods for light cryo-microscopy and in projects to investigate the behaviour of fluorophores under cryo-conditions. Furthermore, the recruited candidate will be encouraged to design and carry out research projects that lead to the development of novel microscopy methods and enable research groups using the ALFM Facility to answer their research questions.
In addition, the recruited candidate will be responsible for maintaining the microscopes and regular communication with vendors under the leadership of the coordinator of the light microscopy platform of Universität Hamburg. The recruited candidate will also contribute to the development and teaching of microscopy courses and seminars (4 LVS), and will formulate standard operating procedures (SOPs) for existing and new microscopes.
The position is initially limited for a period of three years, with a subsequent de-limitation planned.
