ELMI was created in 2001 to establish a unique communication network between European scientists working in the field of light microscopy and the manufacturers of their equipment.
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).
A full time position is available for a Research Technician in a newly established group of Julia Mahamid. The group specializes in cryo-focused ion beam preparations and in situ cryo-electron tomography. Training in these aspects will be provided.
The successful candidate is expected to design and perform experiments upon request to support a variety of projects in the laboratory. The post holder is required to develop good practical skills in sample preparation, imaging techniques for light- and cryo- electron microscopy and knowledge of the relevant data analysis routines. Technological progress in the relevant fields has to be followed and eventually introduced into the daily laboratory routine. He/she participates in group meetings, attends scientific seminars and conferences and helps in the preparation of research manuscripts.
The post holder self-responsively manages the laboratory, oversees day-to-day operation and delegates laboratory duties to students and postdocs. The post holder furthermore participates in the supervision and training of undergraduates and PhD students. The candidate demonstrates a strong motivation to work in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment. He/she participates in EMBL training activities and courses as a tutor.
