We are looking for
As a Light Microscopy and Image Analysis Specialist you will ensure the operation and regular maintenance of all light microscopes at the facility. You will use your expertise and knowledge of experimental set-ups to create tailored imaging protocols to resolve complex imaging problems. You will be expected to respond to the demands of the users of the facility patiently and inventively. You will train, assist and supervise researchers with different levels of experience (from Bachelor’s degree students to highly experienced scientists) and you will give them instructions where necessary and appropriate.
Upon request, you will guide these users in sample preparation, you will assist with their image acquisition settings, and you will instruct them how to manage and analyse their acquired data using the available files servers and software at the facility. You will carry out all required back-up tasks involving electron microscopy equipment.
We ask
- A University or Higher Professional Education+ (HBO+) degree in Science.
- Ample experience in the application of advanced light microscopy techniques (Confocal, Widefield, LightSheet, fluorescence, DIC, polarisation microscopy, etc.).
- Experience with image analysis support and knowledge of software suites (ImageJ/Fiji, Huygens Deconvolution, CellProfiller, etc.).
- Experience with systems administration (e.g. Windows Server) will be considered a plus.
- The ability to disseminate your knowledge to others in an effective way but also to supervise and guide newcomers from various backgrounds.
- A service mentality, and basic knowledge of simple quality control routines.
- A willingness to learn new techniques.
- The ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- The ability to set priorities and directives.
- The ability to write technical manuals and make contributions to funding applications and research articles.
- The ability to communicate in English (fluently) and preferably also in Dutch (or the willingness to learn Dutch).
