ELMI was created in 2001 to establish a unique communication network between European scientists working in the field of light microscopy and the manufacturers of their equipment.
The Live-cell Imaging Facility (Dr. Péter Lénárt) at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry will provide access to advanced light microscopy technologies and support – from sample preparation through image acquisition to image data analysis. who jointly with the Facility head will be responsible for the daily operations, with emphasis on computational/software related tasks. This includes:
The successful candidate will have experience in supporting biologists in imaging applications on commercial microscope systems and in automating these for complex, long-term, multimodal experiments (e.g. FRAP, PA, microsurgery, FC(C)S, FLIM and nanoscopy). Proficiency in performing standard image analysis tasks using common software tools (e.g. ImageJ, Matlab, R, Imaris, Arivis) and programming languages (e.g. Java, Python) is a key requirement. Expertise in modeling biological processes (e.g. to interpret FRAP, FRET, FC(C)S data), along with a good general understanding of biological problems is a major advantage. Excellent communication skills (German and English), and a PhD in natural sciences or a comparable qualification are also required.
